The two basic types of arguments in modern times are political and interpersonal. In any given argument, one party wants something and the other side oppose it. In politics, this is called a 'clash of ideologies', while in interpersonal arguments, it's a question of getting along or not getting along with people.
Political arguments are a lot simpler than interpersonal ones. Everything is pretty much the same - after all, it's basically a debate. The person who is fighting for his or her own agenda just wants what's best for the party in power and doesn't care if it means doing things against what the person does want. In politics, they're called conservatives, or 'Republicans', whereas in interpersonal arguments, they're called 'liberals'.
After a few rounds of argument, it can get too heated up and start spinning off course, but usually, in both cases, the focus should be on the person's side. The person who stands up for their values and beliefs and what they want should be praised and supported, while the person who stands up against them and tries to cause harm to them, which is known as a 'hater', should be condemned. The problem here is that they don't want to have it their way and they're right.
Interpersonal conflicts don't last long, since people can't stand each other all the time. But if there is some underlying conflict, which is about getting along or about disagreeing with the other person, then this is where the trouble starts.
Let's take the typical interpersonal conflict. Your boss is telling you to produce work that is fast and flawless, and he or she doesn't care who is doing it. You want to do the best that you can, so you tell your boss that you're willing to put in an extra ten minutes, which will get you a higher score than the average worker who has been working for you.
When your boss hears this, he or she says, 'Fine, you'll do ten minutes. I'll be back in two minutes.' Meanwhile, he or she puts his or her foot down, or she might raise the expectations for the quality of work and the quality of what's being expected from you.
What you have to realize is that if you want to remain employed and keep your job, you need to establish a good personal relationship with your boss. Being good to your boss is just like any other person who would help you out; it's just that in business, you need to show your boss how much you appreciate him or her.
